Vital Volunteers - The Lifeblood of the Ministry

VITAL VOLUNTEERS – The lifeblood of the ministry

BBI could not serve churches, missionaries, and partners without the many people who have been and continue to be generous with their time, skills, and experience which they invest each month into the function of our mission. We thank the Lord for each one who contributes a little or a lot to the work and for the friendship and fellowship we enjoy.

Please Meet Beatrice (Bea) Merritt – A Vital Volunteer

When you are introduced to Bea, she will often respond, “Comes right after A!” It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, from Bea you always get a, “Good Morning.” She is fun, hardworking, and a blessing to everyone.

Friends for Life

Bea met Eugene and Monna Dean Priddy, founders of Bible Basics International, during the early 1960’s in Monte Carlo, when they were all missionaries with Trans World Radio. When Bea returned to the USA on furlough she met and married Dick Merritt. Dr. Priddy performed their ceremony and they all became friends for life.

Purposeful Retirement

In 1991, with Dick and Bea both retired, they moved from Rhode Island to New Port Richey, FL to volunteer with Bible Basics. They worked four days a week doing anything and everything they could from yard work to office work (proofreading, mailing, and many menial chores that needed attention). By 1993, Dick became too ill from cancer to continue serving. The Lord took him home that spring.

Persistence and Prayer

Bea is now 88 years old. She has lost her hearing and has problems with numbness in her feet and hands, but a couple of times a month, still comes in for part of a day to do whatever she can to help the ministry. In addition, Bea is an active duty prayer warrior. She and Isabel, her neighbor, spend countless hours praying for the ministry and missionaries of BBI. We thank the Lord for Vital Volunteers like Bea Merritt!
