Missionary Background – Evan and his wife Joy come to us with extensive missionary experience. They served 15 years in France; he taught in a French Bible school for 13 years and was president of the school for six years. They planted a Baptist church that has 200 members today with a French pastor trained by Evan. Evan has been a senior pastor for the past five and a half years in Richmond, VA.
Transition Plans – Rev. Drake will take the reins as president in the Fall of 2009 after a period of transition, during which he will be introduced to BBI’s missionaries in India and Honduras. The Drakes will also be raising personal support for their family.
Family – Evan Drake and Joy Saxon were married on July 6, 1979, in Orange Park, FL. They have five sons: Adam and Jonathan are both married, Benjamin is a student at Piedmont Baptist College, Samuel will be a senior in high school, and Matthew is in grammar school.
Education – Both of the Drakes are graduates of Piedmont Bible College (now Piedmont Baptist College) in Winston-Salem, NC. Evan’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Theology degree from Piedmont and a Master of Theology in Old Testament and Hebrew from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN. He completed a year of doctoral studies in theology in France.
Heritage – Evan is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Donald Drake. Dr. Drake was president of Piedmont Bible College for 18 years prior to joining Bible Basics International. He held the position of Vice-President of International Ministries and was Associate Bible Teacher on BBI’s radio program, Bible Basics. Don and Catherine served with BBI for more than 15 years and are now retired staff members. Consequently, Evan does not come to Bible Basics International as an unknown person.
