The question then is, "How may I be sure I have the Son and thus be sure I have eternal life?"
The Bible teaches that each one of us is a sinner by nature and by deed or act. That is,
you and I have broken the laws of God and have brought harm to ourselves and to others.
Romans 3:23 & 6:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God... the wages
of sin is death...
Because of sin, according to Jesus, a person cannot "see the
kingdom of God" except a new birth takes place within him to give him a new nature.
John 3:3-7 "… Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus saith unto him, "How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water
and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born
of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Jesus Died for You!
The new birth takes place when one believes the record God gave about His Son and
puts his faith in Jesus Christ to save eternally. That record, the Bible, says that
Jesus died, was buried, and was resurrected for your personal sins. By His payment,
you are set free.
1 Corinthians 15:3 …Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures…He
was buried, and…He rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
Confess that Jesus is Lord & Believe
To have your sins forgiven, confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him
from the dead.
Romans 10:9-10, 13 …if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation. …For whosoever shall call upon the name of
the Lord shall be saved.
Do Not Fail to Act!
Many know the truth, but are not saved because they fail to actually believe what
the Bible says and receive Him by faith.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the
sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.
Confess to God that you have sinned and ask Him to save you because Jesus died
for your sins. A simple prayer from your heart can open the door to eternal life.
It is not the prayer that saves, but Jesus saves in response to your faith in Him.
Pray something like this in your own words:
Father, I know I have sinned against You and others. I know You and Jesus love me
and He died on the cross for my sins. I believe You raised Him from the dead because
you were satisfied with what He did for me. I trust You to forgive my sin, come into
my life and help me to live for You. Lord Jesus, thank you for what You did for me.
Thank you, Father, for receiving me into your family. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Then believe what God said in His Word, the Bible, rather than the doubts that
may crowd your mind.
You Can Really Be Sure!
The verse that brought real assurance to me was:
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth
on Him who sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;
but is passed from death unto life.
Notice that I had heard the Word of God, I believed what it said, and therefore,
I had eternal life as a present reality. God's Word does not say "will have" or
"might have," but "hath everlasting life…is passed from death unto life."
The Apostle John wrote:
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the
Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…
Yes, you can be sure - even positive - you are saved and will spend eternity with God.
Are you sure? If not, make sure right now!
